St Vincent’s Institute of Medical Research (SVI)

St Vincent’s Institute of Medical Research has been conducting laboratory research into the cause, prevention and treatment of common diseases for more than 60 years.

Researchers at SVI focus on diseases that represent major health issues for Australians today, including diabetes, bone diseases, cancer, cardiovascular disease, obesity and Alzheimer’s disease.

Research at SVI has led to breakthroughs in the treatment of type 1 diabetes, understanding of how breast cancer spreads to bone and how the body balances its use of energy, with implications for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and obesity.
